Dress Up for the Seasons

Provide a variety of clothing items and accessories for different seasons. Mix them up. Pick a season, and encourage your tot to dress for it.

Instructions

Get Ready

Gather the following materials. We've linked to our suggested choices, but feel free to substitute!

  • Seasonal Clothing & Accessories

Practice New Skills

Display an assortment of seasonal clothing and accessories, including a few items for each season. Tell your tot you are going to pretend it’s winter, and begin to put on winter clothing. Encourage your tot to try. Repeat for other seasons, following your tot’s lead and supporting her play.

Investigate

Describe the steps your tot is taking. Talk about what is happening, and/or why it might be happening. Help your tot make predictions and test ideas.

  • You are putting on gloves. They would keep your fingers warm on a cold day!
  • In the spring it rains a lot. What could you hold to keep yourself dry?
  • You are putting on a swimsuit. Would you wear that on a cold, winter day? Why?
  • Let’s look outside. What would be good to wear today?
